Its high build quality allows for a one coat application in many service conditions, over properly prepared surfaces. Excellent chemical and corrosion resistance in most water applications, corrosive fume service and where high impact and abrasion resistance is required.

PRINCIPAL USES: Steel vessels, pipes, pumps, valves, blowers, and structural weldments in many water, chemical, petroleum and marine environments.

OTHER FEATURES: KEYSITE 740 is a high solid VOC compliant epoxy, exceeding the most stringent air quality regulations. KEYSITE 740 contains is non flammable therefore, it can be applied with ease in areas where another epoxy system might create a fire concern.

KEYSITE 740 is easy to apply and if damaged can be readily repaired in the field.

KEYSITE 740 has the highest impact resistance and bond strength in new applications and when applied over properly prepared existing Keysite 740 linings.

KEYSITE 740 has excellent resistance to the following: Water (tap, fresh, salt, brackish, distilled, deionized, boiler feed to 180°F.), alcohol, alkalies, gasoline, diesel fuel, sour crude, mineral solvents, toluene, xylene, kerosene, and nonedible vegetable oils.

APPLICATION:
KEYSITE 740 may be applied by airless or conventional spray. Use "cross spray" application procedure. Move gun fast enough to avoid runs or sags. When KEYSITE 740 is applied at 160 square feet per gallon, wet film thickness should be 8 mils to obtain 6 mils dry film thickness. Allow for loss due to application methods and conditions of surface irregularities. KEYSITE 740 can also be applied by brush.

SPRAY EQUIPMENT:
Conventional Spray - DeVilbis JGA gun with "E" tip and needle, #765 air cap on 1/4" air hose, 3/8" material hose and standard pressure pot. Airless Spray - GRACO 6-21, Orifice top - 1/4" I.D., teflon material hose and 30.1 ratio pump.

CLEAN UP:
Clean spray equipment thoroughly with KEYSITE 740 thinner.

KEYSITE 740

GENERAL APPLICATION SPECIFICATION

SPRAY

1. Combine Part B with Part A of one kit, stir thoroughly. Spray all material out of pot before combining a new kit. Catalyzed material must be removed from pot and material hose at lunch break and at end of every application period. If temperature is 100 degrees. F., or over, add not OVER 1/2 pint pr gal. of Keysite 700 thinner to prevent jelling in spray pot during application.

2. Use only clean, dry air at 30 to 40 lbs. pot pressure and 40 to 50 psi atomization (material pressure) in standard production type spray equipment - such as DeVilbis MBC or JGA gun with "D" tip and needle and #24 air cap on 1/4" air hose and 3/8" material hose and standard pressure pot.

3. Use "cross spray" application procedure. Move gun fast enough to avoid runs or sags. Wet film thickness per coat should b 6 to 8 mils. Allow each coat to air dry tack free. This will require only 16 to 24 hours @ 790°F. in properly ventilated area.

4. Clean spray equipment thoroughly with Keysite thinner after use.

B. BRUSH

1. Use a pure bristle only. Do not use Nylon.

2. Normally , apply Keysite 740 as is direct from can after mixing. For additional flow in cold weather, thin with 5% Keysite thinner only.

3. Allow each coat to air dry - same as in spray application.

4. Recommended coating thickness:

Class 1 - (12 to 15 mil Holiday Free Dry Film thickness)

Immersion

Strong Fumes

Strong corrosive splash or spillage

mild abrasion ( may be reinforced with glass cloth - (see application instructions)

Class 2 - (8 to 10 mil Holiday free dry film thickness)

Mild splash

Normal fumes

GENERAL SPECIFICATION

TANK, PIPE, WELDMENTS

1. SCOPE:

1.1 This specification covers the surface inspection, preparation, application, testing, shipment and marking for proper application of Keysite 740 or approved equal to metal tanks, pipe, structural members and weldments.

2. MATERIAL:

2.1 The material used shall be KEYSITE 740 or approved equal.1.1

3. SURFACE INSPECTION:

3.1 All weld splatter and other projecting irregularities shall be removed by chipping or grinding.

3.2 All sharp corners shall be ground to a 1/16" radius.

3.3 All contaminants shall be removed by solvent washing or steam cleaning i.e. oil, grease, wax, etc.

3.4 All welding shall be "continuous," free of "pinholes and undercuts."

4. METAL PREPARATION:

4.1 Entire surface to be coated shall be blast cleaned to commercial blast finish. (Steel Structures Painting Council Specification).

5.2 The thickness of the sprayed wet film shall not exceed .015" per coat as checked by an Interchemical Wet Film Thickness Gage (or equal). The spraying shall be done by the multiple pass method.

5.3 Each coat shall be air cured with adequate ventilation until nearly tack free before application of succeeding coat.

5.4 Two coats shall be applied as above to a finished dry film thickness of 12 to 15 mils as determined by a non-destructive magnetic type gage (Elcometer or equal).

5.5 coating shall extend through all flange necks and across full flange face.

6. TESTING:

6.1 After finished coating is thoroughly cured, the entire surface shall be tested for porosity with a 67 volt holiday detector (Tinker & Razor or equal).
